PRESIDENT’S MESSAGE

Mayu Shanmugasundram-President, IES Toronto.
The Toronto Section of the Illuminating Engineering Society is a dynamic community of lighting professionals united in advancing the IES’ Mission and Vision. As one of the society’s largest and most diverse sections, we proudly encompass all facets of the lighting industry, including manufacturers, distributors, lighting designers, architects, engineers, contractors, and educators.

Our primary commitment revolves around knowledge sharing, exemplified by our bustling calendar of educational initiatives. Our monthly Technical Luncheons, consistently well-attended and highly regarded, feature industry leaders offering insights on pertinent topics. Throughout the year, we offer courses ranging from Fundamentals of Lighting to Intermediate Lighting, a Roadway Lighting Symposium, Luminaire design challenge , among other valuable resources.

We are dedicated to nurturing emerging professionals, providing a platform for newcomers to learn and network with seasoned experts. Additionally, we actively support student bursaries at local educational institutions.

Beyond our educational endeavors, we prioritize social connections and celebrations. Our members relish opportunities to gather and embark on enlightening Lightwalks to popular city destinations. During our Gala and Awards Nights, we applaud our peers for their outstanding contributions to the field.

The past three years have brought unique challenges due to the pandemic shutdowns, impacting our operations significantly. However, we are pleased to report that we are gradually regaining momentum and returning to our pre-pandemic operations.

Our thriving community owes its vibrancy to the unwavering support of numerous sponsors and the tireless efforts of our dedicated board volunteers. It is our ongoing mission to enhance the value of IES membership. We encourage you to join our mailing list, explore our website, and attend our events to discover how an IES membership can enrich your professional journey.

We eagerly anticipate the pleasure of meeting you at one of our upcoming events.

Mayu Shanmugasundram
President
