IES Technical Luncheon: An Experiential Conversation About Colour

March 21, 2018 @ 11:30 am - 1:00 pm EDT

As LEDs evolve to offer us unprecedented freedom of design, the topic of colour has become more complicated and confusing than ever before. As lighting professionals we need to be a knowledgeable resource for our clients, and should be able to answer questions like: What is colour and why do we care? How does light really affect colour and how does understanding colour impact the lighting industry? What does colour preference have to do with choosing a light source? What is gamut area, colour fidelity or metamerism? How do we wade through all the colour metrics?

The goal of this technical luncheon is to sort through the topic of colour in a meaningful way so that each attendee can come away with a deeper understanding of colour and the ability to use colour knowledge in their part of the lighting industry.

Tickets:
Members: $50.00 CAD
Non-Members: $65.00 CAD
Emerging Professionals: $25.00 CAD

Sharyn Adler Gitalis, BFA, Assoc. IALD
Sharyn Adler Gitalis, BFA, Assoc. IALDSharyn has always loved colour. When she was a little girl her favourite thing to do was to colour with her giant collection of Crayola crayons. Inspired by the light and the wide open sky of the Alberta prairies, drawings and paintings were always on the go. With an Honours Bachelor Degree in Fine Art, Sharyn set off in a creative career that has brought her into the worlds of theatre, colour design, fashion, art and lighting.

As principal in her own practise, Colour + Light, and Associate Lighting Designer with Gottesman Associates, Sharyn continues to explore and apply her knowledge of colour and light for a wide variety of projects.

Her volunteer work as Board member with the Colour Research Society of Canada, allows her the opportunity to meet many fascinating people involved with colour and to keep abreast of research, projects and the study of colour around the world. Sharyn shares her passion for light and colour by teaching at OCAD University, Ryerson University and Artbarn School. She also teaches colour and lighting seminars and workshops for fellow designers.
